A hyperbole is a statement that is deliberately exaggerated to make a statement.

Alliteration
Alliteration occurs when many of the words in a sentence posses the same letter or sound at the beginning of each word.
English is Extremely Effective in making me an Exhausted student."
Rhythm & Rhyme
A rhyme occurs when two or more words have a correspondence between two words or sounds.
A rhythm in poetry is defined as a musical quality in poetry that occurs when there are rhymes.
Love -> Dove is an example of a rhyme.
Metaphor
Comparing something to something else!
"It hurt the way my tongue did after I accidentally stapled it."
Analogy
An analogy is a comparison between two things. Similar to a metahpor! The example I gave for metaphors can also be interpretted as analogies. My brother just sat there, like a lamp.
Repetition
Repeating something that has already been said.
"I like peanuts. I like peanuts"
Personification
Giving an inanimate object human characteristics.
"The wind howled"
Allusion
To attempt to say something, without directly mentioning it.
Oxymoron
When two things contradict each other in conjunction.
"Innocent Cheerleader" (just kidding)
Euphemism
A Euphemism occurs when someone substitutes a less-harsh expression in the place of saying something potentially offensive.
"passing away" is a euphemism for dying.
Imagery
Using descriptive language to create a picture in someone's mind.
As I trudged purposefully, but grudgingly through the wet, icy and wintery terrain of the Uvic campus, I couldn't help reminding myself how much I hate PE, as the sweat trickled down my back, and the icy wind bit at my arms.
Irony
Irony is language, or sarcasm used to make a point, using two opposite things.
"My grandma used to say slow and steady wins the race. She died in a fire."
Malapropism
To misuse a word instead of a similar-sounding word, either deliberately or by mistake.
"We cannot let terrorists and rogue nations hold this nation hostile or hold our allies hostile." George W. Bush
Onomatopoeia
A word that coordinates with the sound associated with it's name.
